Lady Aurora Dancing over Peyto Lake

On a perfect, unseasonably warm April evening, everything went right from my viewpoint at Peyto Lake.

There is an absolute surreal quality to the Aurora Borealis. It seems as though it should exist only in a realm of magic, where the laws of our universe bend and break. It is elusive, and although we can make predictions when it may occur, those predictions are often wrong, and the Rockies seem to attract clouds on nights when the Aurora dances above. The chase ends in disappointment most nights, but perhaps that is what makes a beautiful display of swirls, ribbons, and pillars such a special thing to witness.
